Are there enough staples in this book?
book stapled together

Some time ago I came across this interesting object. The book was stapled together with 144 bits of rusting iron. The book was early 20th Century, about 1909, so they had been rusting away for over 100 years.  A wire cutter wasn't part of my toolkit up to that point, but after a quick trip to the local tool shop it was. Then it was pretty easy to lift each leg of a staple and use the wire cutters to remove it.

After that it was an easy job to remove the linings and pull the book down.  Amazingly there wasn't too much rust damage in the folds.

I don't expect to see anything like this soon but if I do I still have those wirecutters in my tool drawer.
